About the event

Iranian-American performer-turned-Hollywood-executive Arsalan Akhavan returns to the stage after eight years’ hiatus to debut his new funny and uplifting one-man show The Good Iranian at this year’s Edinburgh Festival Fringe inside one of the city’s most enchanting venues.

The Good Iranian interweaves myths from The Persian Book of Kings (Shahnameh) with true-life stories from Arsalan’s life growing up as an Iranian kid in the Deep American South, asking: what makes someone good? Mesmerising, moving and timely, this unique show directed by Sepy Baghaei and produced by Akhavan’s production company Rug Entertainment sold out its three-night work-in-progress run at London’s Pinch of Vault Festival earlier this year.

For over a thousand years, the Shahnameh has been a guiding light for Iranians through their darkest times. At The Good Iranian, audiences will get the rare chance to understand why.
